Locate the blue low-pressure and red-high pressure valves on your unit. Double check to make sure the valves on the manifold gauge to the low and high pressure valves are closed. Attach the blue-low pressure hose to the blue low-pressure valve on the unit and the red-high pressure hose to the red high-pressure valve on the unit.

At this point you will be starting the test where you will need to record some information. Open the blue low-pressure manifold valve and then the red. Record the low and high pressure readings and temperature readings on your gauges. Disconnect your gauges in the reverse order.

Using the recorded values, consult a refrigerant pressure/temperature chart to determine if the recorded pressure for your unit is at the appropriate level. Lower pressure will typically indicate a low charge while higher pressure will indicate a high charge.

If you suspect there is problem in the system, keep a log of each time your perform this test. If the log indicates a problem then it is recommended to contact a licensed technician to perform a system audit and inspect all components of the unit. Expensive repairs can be prevented through a preventative maintenance program that includes performing this test.
